According to the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition, there were almost 2,000 homeless people in our county in 2016. By their count, approximately 38 percent were women. In late October, the Presbyterian Night Shelter of Tarrant County opened the renovated Lowdon-Schutts Women’s Shelter. This particular center caters to single, homeless women, and can accommodate 160 women.

We have been following this story for some time, so it was exciting to read that $23 million has been designated for the construction of the Hemphill Street Connector Project. The connector, from Lancaster Avenue to West Vickery Boulevard, will feature a four-lane divided road that goes under I-30 and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
