In early June, Presbyterian Night Shelter revealed their new homeless shelter for women and their children.
The Morris Foundation Women and Children’s Center, located on Poplar Street in Fort Worth, has 40 dormitory-style rooms, a children’s room, dining room, computer center and outdoor playground. The beautiful $8.4 million facility was paid for through local donations along with a federal grant.
In the next few months, the facility hopes to open a retail space that can provide internships, job training and revenue. Add that to the current counseling and educational programs, and the shelter hopes to reduce average stays to three to six months.
There is rarely an easy answer to the homeless question. But a safe, comfortable, dignified place to stay for moms and their kids, is a great start. For more information on Presbyterian Night Shelter, including the Morris Foundation Women’s and Children’s Center, please visit their website.
We offer our congratulations to Presbyterian Night Shelter, their staff and volunteers, for their tireless efforts to help those in need in our community. Well done!
