Employee Spotlight – James Morris

How long have you been working here? I have been with Fort almost 4 years now.

What is your role at Fort?   My job with Fort is site Superintendent. That responsibility includes scheduling the project, coordinating the subs, maintain quality control, making sure safety measures are being followed, and communicating directly with the architects, engineers and owners.

What did you do before Fort Construction? Construction is in my blood you could say. My Grandfather was a contractor, and my Dad worked with him growing up. It was the same for me since I was 13 with my dad. In 2008, I started and ran a small residential construction company for 9 years prior to Fort. The company was called Branded Creek Construction. It was a great business; however, I felt like the growth and experience I would gain with a company like Fort would be invaluable given the vastly different projects they have completed and milestones they have achieved for over a decade.

Where were you born and raised? Right here in Cowtown!! Well, technically I grew up and still live in Aledo. This little town has got a lot bigger over the years, but it is still a great place to live. I’m pleased to be able to have my kids go to the same school I did with the kids of my old school mates.

When is your birthday and how old are you?  My birthday is November 18th…The BIG 40!

What are your hobbies? I enjoy hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, being on the lake and my favorite is taking trips with my 2 sons!  The look on their faces at new places is the best thing in the world!

What is your relationship status? I am single, but that’s ok. I have 2 wonderful boys named Jackson (10) and Alexander (6). They are so much fun and cherish almost every minute with them. They can be knuckleheads at times which is why I said almost. But, seriously, I do love them so much, such sweet boys!

Do you have any pets? Currently, no pets. We had a golden Lab named Bailey, but Alex has allergies to pets and we may be on the move before long. Fortunately, Bailey was taken by a family member that gives him lots of love and the boys can see him at any time.

What do you like most about your job?  The people for sure!  Everyone at Fort is goal oriented, supportive, and values family. That makes it a great place to work. Couple a team like Fort with the intense projects we have, and you have solid results.

What is a long- or short-term goal that you have? Fort is my career. With that being said, the construction industry is ever changing so the ability to adapt is key. The long-term goal is to never stop learning about construction. There is always something new to learn…. every day. The rest should fall into place the way it’s meant.
